Wedding
Weddings in the Mithilanchal region are famous for being intellectually rich, deeply traditional, and distinct from the standard "Bollywood-style" Indian wedding. Rooted in the land of King Janak and Goddess Sita, these rituals often treat the groom as Lord Rama and the bride as Sita. a Maithil wedding is unique for its heavy emphasis on art (Madhubani painting), witty folk songs (Maithili Sohar and Gaali), The Groom’s Attire: The groom arrives wearing a Paag (traditional headgear), a Dhoti, and carries a Dhunesh (a wooden staff). He often wears wooden slippers called Khadaam to signify his entry into a wedding. Parichhan: Upon arrival, the groom is welcomed at the door by the bride’s mother and other female relatives. They perform an aarti and playfully pull his nose or clothes to "test" his patience and character. thereafter multiple rituals follows like Jaymala, Kanyadaan, Sindurdaan, Lawa-Chhitai and Kohabar and lastly the Bidai.
