haldi, saadi
The Haldi ceremony, celebrated in both Bengali and Punjabi traditions, involves applying a turmeric-sandalwood paste to the bride and groom by family and friends. It symbolizes purification, protection, and blessings for the couple’s new journey. Everyone dresses in yellow, creating a joyful, musical atmosphere.
Later, during the Phere ceremony, the couple takes seven sacred rounds around the holy fire, each vow representing love, commitment, and shared responsibilities. The fire acts as a divine witness to their union. This wedding beautifully blends both cultures, honoring rituals from Punjab and Bengal in a spiritually unifying celebration.

SINDOOR DAAN
The Sindoor Daan ritual usually takes place after the main wedding ceremony — that is, after the seven sacred circles (Saat Paak) and other Vedic rites are performed. In this ritual, the groom takes vermillion (sindoor) with his right hand and applies it on the parting of the bride’s hair (sindoori). This act marks the social and religious acceptance of the bride as a married woman. Wearing sindoor from this point onwards signifies her new identity — as a wife.
As the sindoor is applied, the bride’s family and relatives typically celebrate the moment with conch blowing and ululation, creating a sacred and joyful atmosphere. In Bengali tradition, sindoor is considered a symbol of longevity, auspiciousness, and the sacred bond between husband and wife.
This timeless ritual beautifully blends love, trust, and societal acknowledgment into one powerful moment of union.
