It is usually held a few days before the wedding and involves both the families coming together to celebrate the union of the bride and groom through music and dance. Mayra and Bhaat
In Marwari weddings, "Mayra" and "Bhaat" are two traditional ceremonies that hold special significance in the pre-wedding rituals. During the "Mayra" ceremony for the groom, the groom's family prepares a basket filled with gifts, including clothes, accessories, sweets, and other items. This basket is then sent to the bride's family as a gesture of goodwill and acceptance. In the Bhaat ceremony, the maternal uncles (Mamas) of the bride and groom play a significant role. They visit their respective niece's or nephew's homes to bless them and offer gifts.
Haldi
In Indian weddings, including Marwari traditions, the "Haldi" ceremony is a significant pre-wedding ritual that is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy. The Haldi ceremony is a vibrant and colorful event where both the bride and groom are smeared with turmeric paste, known as "Haldi," to cleanse and purify them before their wedding.
Baraat / Nikasi
In Indian weddings, the "Baraat" is a lively and joyous procession that marks the arrival of the groom at the wedding venue. It is one of the most anticipated and celebratory events in the wedding festivities, especially in Marwari traditions. Before the Baraat procession begins, the groom dresses up in traditional attire, which may include a sherwani, turban, and embellished accessories. He is often accompanied by his close friends and family members, who also dress up in festive attire. The Baraat procession is a grand affair where the groom, accompanied by his family and friends, proceeds towards the wedding venue, usually on a decorated horse or in a luxury car. The procession is led by a lively band or DJ playing traditional music, creating a festive and energetic atmosphere. As the Baraat procession moves towards the wedding venue, the groom's family and friends dance and sing along to the music, celebrating the joyous occasion.
