Muhurtham – The Sacred Moment of Union 🪔👰🤵 In Brahmin tradition, the Muhurtham is the most auspicious part of the wedding — the divine moment where two souls become one in the presence of Agni (sacred fire) and Vedic chants. The rituals include: Kashi Yatra – A light-hearted ritual where the groom pretends to renounce worldly life before being gently brought back by the bride’s father. Maalai Matral (Garland Exchange) – The couple exchanges garlands, symbolizing mutual acceptance. Oonjal (Swing Ceremony) – The couple sits on a swing, blessed by elders and rocked gently as a symbol of stability in married life. Kanyadanam – The bride’s father gives his daughter’s hand to the groom, entrusting her in marriage. Mangalyadharanam – The groom ties the thaali (mangalsutra) around the bride’s neck at the exact muhurtham time, uniting them as husband and wife. Saptapadi (Seven Steps) – Together, they take seven steps around the sacred fire, vowing to support each other for life.
