Muhurtham
The Tamil wedding muhurtham is the sacred wedding ceremony where the bride and groom are united through age-old rituals and Vedic chants. Held during an auspicious time chosen by astrologers, the muhurtham is the spiritual heart of the wedding.
Key rituals include the Kanyadaanam(giving away of the bride), Mangalsutra tying(thali kattudhal), and Saptapadi (seven steps around the sacred fire), symbolizing their vows for a lifelong partnership. The ceremony is rich in tradition, with blessings from elders, rhythmic nadaswaram music, and vibrant attire.
Usually held in the early morning hours, the muhurtham is intimate and emotional, witnessed by close family and friends. It marks not just the union of two souls, but also the coming together of two families in love, faith, and tradition.
