Kerala Hindu Wedding (Kalyanam)
A traditional Kerala Hindu wedding, often referred to as a "Nair" wedding, is a vibrant and sacred ceremony deeply rooted in cultural rituals. On the wedding day, the groom arrives at the venue, often a temple or a specially decorated mandapam, accompanied by a procession of family and friends. The bride, adorned in a traditional Kerala saree and adorned with gold ornaments, is escorted to the mandapam by her close relatives. The wedding rituals are conducted by a priest who chants Vedic hymns, while the couple exchanges garlands. The highlight of the ceremony is the "Thali Kettu," where the groom ties a sacred thread, or "thali," around the bride's neck, symbolizing their marital bond, accompanied by the rhythmic and auspicious beats of the "Kettu Melam" ensemble. The ceremony concludes with blessings from elders, followed by a grand feast called "Sadhya," served on banana leaves with an array of traditional Kerala delicacies.
